About the School

Who we are, what we believe, and how the National Education Policy shapes our classrooms.

A school built around the child

City International School is a co-educational, English medium school in Gorakhpur, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and following the NCERT curriculum. We teach from the Foundational Stage through to Class XII, on a campus set back from the main road so that classrooms stay quiet and the playing field stays open.

Our work is guided by the National Education Policy 2020. In practice that means competency-based teaching rather than rote learning, assessment that reports what a child can actually do, and a curriculum arranged in the 5+3+3+4 stages the Policy describes.

Our vision

To develop confident, articulate and responsible young citizens who think for themselves, respect the people around them, and carry a lasting curiosity about the world.

Our mission

  • Deliver the CBSE curriculum through experiential, competency-based and art-integrated teaching.
  • Secure foundational literacy and numeracy for every child by the end of the Preparatory Stage.
  • Keep classes small enough that each teacher knows every child's strengths and gaps by name.
  • Provide a safe, inclusive campus where children of every background and ability belong.
  • Report progress honestly to parents, measured against the child's own previous work.

Our values

Compete with yourself. We do not read out rank lists. A child's report compares this term with their own last term and names the two things to work on next. Parents receive a written note twice a term and may meet the class teacher during office hours without an appointment.

How NEP 2020 shapes our classrooms

  • Mother tongue and multilingualism. Hindi and English run together in the early years, so children think in the language they are most comfortable in while building fluency in both.
  • Holistic Progress Card. Reporting covers scholastic work alongside health, values, creativity and teamwork.
  • Experiential learning. Science is taught with apparatus in hand; mathematics through problems drawn from daily life.
  • Bagless days and vocational exposure. Students from Class VI take part in bagless learning days and hands-on vocational activities each academic year.
  • Coding and computational thinking. Introduced from Class VI, as the Policy recommends.
